Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan in his visit to the Thousand Islands (Kepulauan Seribu) on Tuesday said he intends to promote the island as a digital nomad destination, a trend which he believes is currently rising in popularity.
“Digital nomad is a new entity, this is unique, they work but not limited by location. We want those people with high productivity and mobility to utilize the Thousand Islands,” said the governor on May 24, Antaranews reported.
He said that the city administration is currently preparing 9,000 free internet sports across the capital city, which includes the islands.
On Bidadari Island, for example, free internet networks are available, including 'free wifi', which is already available on the Bidadari Island (part of the Thousand Islands). He explains that the cost for a 'digital nomad' in the Thousand Islands is affordable and provides a different atmosphere compared to the usual working hours on the mainland of Jakarta.
"The point is you don't have to go far but you will get a new atmosphere with lower cost, shorter travel time, affordable living costs," said the governor. (Antara/Tempo)
